About YAM
Yukon Adventure Magazine grew out of a love for adventure in the North. The people who live in and visit the Yukon are made up of truly adventurous souls and this website serves as a showcase for them, those wishing to join in on the fun or those who think y’all are crazy and just want to read about the adventures.
We also hope to dispel certain stereotypes about the Yukon, such as the following:
- Is it dark all winter?
- Do mushers name their sled dogs?
- Are the bugs intolerable?
- When do they remove the ice bridges?
The Yukon Territory is 483,000 square kilometres of beauty, most of it remote. The minimal population of 32,000 people makes heading into the backcountry and not seeing a soul a common and wonderful aspect of finding adventure in the Yukon. You are more likely to run into a bear than another person, so bring your bear spray!
Adventures range from multi-day river trips to hiking on Herschel Island on the Arctic Coast, to kayak fishing, biking, road relays to climbing Canada’s largest mountain, Mount Logan.
On Yukon Adventure Magazine, you will be able to:
- find handy tips on where to go for specific adventures
- connect with other adventure-seekers
- share your love of a certain sport
- receive gear tips from experts who USE and LOVE gear
- find out more about the amazing communities all around the Yukon
- find out more about the Yukon in general
The Writers
Yukon Adventure Magazine is looking for writers who have experienced adventuring in the Yukon and want to share it with the world. Were you just on an awesome 10-day remote river trip and want to share your story and photos? Get in touch with us! If you are not interested in writing yourself, we will interview you and write the story for you. We want to get these adventures out there any way we can.
You don’t have to live here, articles from visitors are welcomed as well. If you DO live here, we are looking for articles that represent all of Yukon, so get in touch with us at admin@yukonadventuremag.com.
The Stories
The term “Adventure” is pretty broad, so if you have a category you think your story fits in that you don’t see here, let us know. We’ll fit it in or make one up. This website is for all of us!
Dispatches from…
We also look for killer adventure stories from outside the Yukon as we recognize that some pretty cool stuff does *sometime* happen outside the Territory. If you have something to share, contact us.
